Learner Pathways

All subject areas are divided into a pathway model of grouping students to ensure that we meet the needs of all our learners and offer an inclusive environment. We have a diverse student population of students ranging from those with moderate learning needs, sensory learners, Autism, behaviours that challenge, communication needs or physical needs.  There is complete flexibility in the pathways and students may work within

Links with other special schools and settings and other research warns against the narrowing of the curriculum and has supported us in developing our pathways approach, allowing us to focus on individual needs and expand opportunities for students to gain success in a wide range of skills suited to their needs and abilities.

Determining a students’ pathway by subject contributes to the development of an individualised learning experience, identifying and working to develop areas of strength and providing further additional support where needed.

Bronze/Bronze Plus

Students working on our Bronze pathway are usually working around the early stages of the Coppice Progress Steps and are therefore more typically at an earlier stage in the development of their learning.

Students within this pathway often have more complex needs and benefit from the rich sensory environment and intense interaction this pathway offers,

These students will typically work towards external accreditation such as Gateway life skills as well as developing skills for learning and life.

Silver/Silver Plus

Students working on our Silver pathway are usually working towards or around Coppice Progress Step 6 at the start of their time at the academy and learning is around the equivalence of pre/early national curriculum outcomes.

Students within this pathway often have moderate learning difficulties and benefit from the highly structured, multi-sensory, specialist teacher led learning this pathway offers with the aim of developing skills which will support them in becoming independent learners.

These students will typically work towards external Entry Level 1 and 2 accreditations.

Gold

Students working within our Gold pathway are usually working towards or around Coppice Progress Step 8 at the start of their time at the academy and whilst students on this pathway are usually working at the equivalence of National Curriculum outcomes, these are below age-related National Curriculum outcomes

Students within this pathway may have moderate learning difficulties but have developed some independent learning skills. They benefit from a highly-structured, teacher-led environment which offers opportunities to further enhance the development of their independent learning skills.

These students will typically work towards external Entry Level 3 accreditations

Platinum/Platinum Plus

Students working on our platinum pathways are usually working towards or around Coppice Progress Step 9 at the start of their time at the academy. These students are usually working around age-related expectations.

Students within this pathway have developed independent learning skills and with support, are able to apply these skills to enable progress in a small group environment led by our specialist teachers. They benefit from access to a curriculum with additional challenge to stretch and motivate in a safe, learning environment.

These students will typically work towards Level 1 and Level 2 accreditations and/or GCSEs. This is determined by the student’s progress and individual needs.
